Differences Between Zebra RW 420 Printer and Zebra QL 420 Printer

Zebra has been manufacturing printing solutions for over half a century. With that being said, they’ve been able to keep the pace with technology. They offer a range of printers that can meet your needs.

Whether you need a connection for a traditional setting or you need the latest in wireless connectivity, Zebra has the solution.

For this blog, I want to compare and contrast just two of the printer options Zebra offers.

Here’s the short list of similarities between the Zebra RW 420 mobile printer and the Zebra QL 420 mobile printer:

  • Size and weight:

           RW 420 W: W 6.3”, H 6.9”, D 3.0” and weighs 2.0 pounds

           QL 420 W: W 6.0”, H  7.5”, D 3.0” and weighs 2.0 pounds

  • Both come with standard fonts and print at speeds up to 3” of ticket per second.
  • Both mobile printers utilize thermal printing technology.
  • Both of the Zebra mobile printers can print at widths up to 4.09”.

The differences in the two come in security and connectivity. While the RW 420 mobile printer is ideal for printing delivery receipts and/or invoices on the go, the QL 420 mobile printer is built for an increased level of security.

If you're the least bit concerned about security during the transfer of data, Zebra offers five levels of security. The first level, which is zero, is basically no protection. Level four is the most secure. Having said that, most enterprises utilize a security level of two or three.

Level – Type of Protection:

  • 0 - Secret service set identifier (SSID)
  • 1 - Wired Equivalency Privacy (WEP) encryption only
  • 2 - Wi-fi Protected Access (WPA) encryption + authentication; WPA2
  • 3 - Virtual Private Network (VPN) encryption + authentication
  • 4 - 802.11i encryption + authentication

Another thing to mention is that since the QL 420 mobile printer is built for printing labels, all the specifications accomodate the heavier paper quality. The QL420 printer also has a bar that when engaged allows the user to peel off the label with one hand.
