Value Added Means Software Development
This is the second installment on ways Cardinal Tracking is a value-added distributor.

What is software development? It can mean a number of things:
- writing code from the ground up
- enhancing an already existing software
- tailoring an existing software for your needs
This is just one story of how Cardinal Tracking took existing software and enhanced it for the medical waste industry.
In our present day, everyone seems to be some-what germ-conscious. And with good reason. Potentially deadly bacteria are carried through the air that is recycled in airplanes and after hypodermic needles are used once they must be disposed of properly.
It’s one thing to try and control who gets on your plane and in what health condition. For a hospital or medical facility it is quite another thing to dispose of hypodermic needles. Every facility will have rules and regulations that it must follow in order to stay in compliance with health codes.
The next time you’re at the doctor’s office take note of the sharps containers. How accessible is it to curious children? It only takes one child or grow-up to come in contact with a used needle to get a lot of people in trouble. That facility is out of compliance.
So, how do you monitor staying in compliance?
Enter software development. The team at Cardinal Tracking was asked to help with just such an issue.
A worker enters a facility with specialty software and a rugged mobile handheld computer. The software tells them the location of each sharps container. Each sharps container is labeled with a bar code. The container is scanned using a mobile scanner and it is noted whether there are any needles exposed and if so, how many.
The company can then report to the hospital or clinic as well as the governing authorities as to compliance.
Compliance can look very different to different companies or organizations. The solution may not be one that is purchased off the shelf at your local office supply store.
Cardinal Tracking is a value-added distributor when a box off the shelf just won't do.
