Juniper Systems Inc. - Rugged Handheld Computers

Juniper Systems Mesa Tablet
This is the fourth installment on a series devoted to manufacturers that Cardinal Mobile distributes.
It's becoming a world of handheld computers.   Not just tablets designed for personal use but those that are built for functionality, durability and the capability of carrying out mission-critical tasks in a specific environment or industry.

One of the companies that manufactures handhelds tailored to meet some very specialized needs is Juniper Systems, Inc.  Recognized as being a world-leader in producing ultra-rugged handheld computers and intuitive field computing solutions, Juniper Systems, Inc. was founded in 1993.

Juniper manufactures handhelds with applications for users in surveying, agriculture (e.g., research, animal RFID, food safety and pest and weed management), natural resources (such a fisheries, forestry, mining reclamation and environmental assessment), construction, aviation, homeland security and energy.

Juniper Systems, Inc. prides itself on partnering with business both local and international to create integrated solutions for focused markets and very specific needs.  Privately held and independent, Juniper has a company DNA expressed in the Juniper Systems' Company Maxims.  Foremost among those:
"We serve our customers and fellow employees with trust, love, respect, and active support, and expect the same in return."

Juniper Systems, Inc. got its start in 1973 as Campbell Scientific, Inc., a company of eight people including a father and three brothers.  The first commercial product manufactured was a device designed to analyze air layers to determine wind speed, thereby meeting a military need to identify cross-wind condition and their effects on the flight of missiles and artillery shells.  In 1975, the company produced a battery-operated system which performed certain real-time measurements, addressing the need for accurate, up-to-date weather information for growing crops.

Today, Juniper provides small, highly reliable machines that log data in all conditions and virtually any environment.   Juniper designs, manufactures and services all of its products at its Logan, Utah, location, believing that centralization optimizes the ability to focus on providing cutting edge innovation and service to its customers around the world.

No design captures what Juniper is all about more than the Mesa Rugged Notepad.   Recently named NASA Tech Briefs Product of the Month, this device seamlessly integrates the functionality and design of a tablet with the capability and computing power of a handheld PC.  The Mesa excels at data collection with a Windows Mobile 6.5.3 operating system.  Extremely ergonomic, it has finger-friendly screens that facilitate pan and flick gestures. And when Juniper says finger-friendly screen, it means it, with a full 5.7 inch VGA active display, the biggest screen currently available for Windows Mobile handhelds.  Bright enough to be easily read anywhere, the Mesa can be used at any time of day or night, indoors or out.

The Mesa also has a custom home screen dashboard that literally puts the most-used device functions at your fingertips. With a battery life of up to 16 hours, this unit stands at the ready.

Today Honeywell is still known for temperature regulators in heating and air conditioning. The company has taken many diverse directions.

There are some folks who are so in love with their iPhones and iPads that they want to use them for all their computing needs. While there are applications where this notion is viable, there are some situations where this would not be a cost-effective option.

Mobile Handhelds in Asset Tracking

What do we mean when we talk about asset tracking? Asset tracking is keeping tabs of every package delivered from the office supply store and those guys in the big brown trucks. Asset tracking can also be the self-checkout kiosk at your local library. When my kids were younger, they used to love to check out books by themselves.

Rugged Mobile Handhelds and Mobile Printing in Parking Enforcement

How many parking tickets do you have? Be honest. How many? My husband and I accumulated more parking tickets in 7 months in NYC then at any other time in our driving years combined. They weren’t handwritten tickets, either. These tickets were computer-printed and left on our windshield. While I’m not happy about the tickets, I am impressed with the level of efficiency these tickets provide for the City of New York(bit of sarcasm).
